Governor Nwifuru: I’m the Only Governor Whose Children School in Nigeria

 

Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has revealed that he is the only governor in Nigeria whose children all school within the country, with none studying beyond the Southeast region.

 

Speaking on January 3, 2025, Nwifuru disclosed that three of his children are schooling in Ebonyi, while two are in Enugu, with their highest school fees at just ₦35,000.

 

“When I shared this at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, they were all surprised and felt sober. Some commissioners in my government pay over ₦2 million per term for their children’s education, but I can’t imagine spending over ₦5 million per term on school fees. Where will I get that kind of money after my tenure? I don’t want to develop blood pressure when I should be resting,” he said.

 

The governor emphasized the need to reform Nigeria’s education system to reduce the trend of affluent families sending their children abroad. He pledged to lead efforts in upgrading educational standards in Ebonyi State to provide quality education locally.
