Cathedral Emerge Champions Of Bishop Owen Nwokolo U-21 Football Championship
Winners have emerged in the maiden edition Bishop Owen Nwokolo U-21 Football Tournament for the Arcdeaconry of the Anglican Communion, Onitsha, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
The Cathedral Archdeaconry edged Omagba Archdeaconry 2-1 to emerge winners of the maiden edition of the Bishop Owen Nwokolo U-21 Years Football Tournament, decided on Monday at the main bowl of the Cathedral Sports Complex.
The thrilling final showcased raw talents and provided the best of entertainment, with promising display of skills by the two teams.
In third place classification match earlier, enterprising Nkpor Archdeaconry team beat their Onitsha South counterparts 6-5 to place third, in a tension-soaked penalty shootout, after a 1-1 stalemate at regulation time.
The tournament is aimed at developing the physical aspect of the Anglican youth in line with the church's spirituality.
Exclusivenews.com.ng understands that no fewer than 40 players were selected during during the tournament and who will be groomed for a scouting tour of Europe.
On Saturday, 26 July 2025, the selected players will engage the B ishop Owen Nwokolo Football Academy, BONFA, in an exhibition match at the Cathedral Sports Complex at 3pm prompt.
The Bishop on the Niger, His Lordship, Bishop Owen Nwokolo, will be the Guest of honour on the occasion during which The Cathedral will be presented their winning trophy.
Similarly, Barrister Rob Izuchukwu, sponsor of the tournament, will be physically present along with the expected scouts.
