The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), originally scheduled for 2024 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, has been postponed to August 2025.

CAF acknowledged significant progress in the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training facilities, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure across the host countries. However, after assessments by CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts, the organization concluded that more time is needed to meet the necessary standards for hosting a successful tournament.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed gratitude to the leaders of the three host nations—President William Ruto (Kenya), President Samia Suluhu Hassan (Tanzania), and President Yoweri Museveni (Uganda)—for their commitment and progress in preparing for the event. He noted his confidence that all facilities would meet CAF standards in time for the rescheduled championship in August 2025.

The draw for the tournament is set to take place in Nairobi on January 15, 2025, at 20:00 local time. CAF will announce the exact dates of the tournament closer to the time.
