The family of late President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed heartfelt appreciation to all individuals, groups, and institutions who supported and stood by them during the period of mourning and burial of the former Nigerian leader.

 

In a statement issued on behalf of the family, Malam Mamman Daura, the most senior member of the Buhari family, conveyed special thanks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu for their role before and after the passing of the late president.

 

“It is truly comforting to receive such support from the President and the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who travelled to the United Kingdom and was with us here in Daura during the mourning period,” Daura said. “These acts of solidarity have given us strength to face this immense loss with courage.”

 

He commended President Tinubu’s thoughtful gestures, including the declaration of a public holiday and the renaming of the University of Maiduguri in honor of the late Buhari.

 

The family also extended appreciation to leaders across the world who offered condolences — either in person, through representatives, letters, or personal calls. Of particular note were King Charles III of England, United Nations Secretary-General, the Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, the African Union Chairperson, and the leadership of ECOWAS.

 

Gratitude was also expressed to former Nigerian Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar for his personal support.

 

Daura noted that while Buhari’s passing represents an “irreparable loss,” the overwhelming sympathy and kind words from across Nigeria and beyond have helped the family cope with their grief.

 

Special thanks were also directed at Vice President Shettima and his wife; state governors — especially Katsina Governor Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, Borno Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, and governors from Adamawa, Kano, Kwara, Lagos, Kaduna, Imo, Nasarawa, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kebbi. The family also recognized former Anambra Governor Dr. Peter Obi for his personal condolences.

 

Former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar, Architect Namadi Sambo, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe were also thanked, alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajuddeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and other members of the National and State Assemblies.

 

Further appreciation was given to Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, his predecessor Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and former Chief of Staff Professor Ibrahim Gambari, as well as ministers past and present for their comforting presence and support.

 

The family also acknowledged the dignified presence and solidarity of traditional rulers, notably the Sultan of Sokoto, Shehu of Borno, Emir of Gwandu, and the host Emirs of Katsina and Daura, along with numerous traditional leaders across Nigeria and neighboring countries.

 

The turnout of religious leaders, community leaders, youth and women groups, and politicians of all affiliations was described as “challenging and reassuring,” as the town of Daura witnessed an outpouring of sympathy from all corners.

 

In conclusion, the Buhari family expressed deep appreciation to security agencies, intelligence services, civil servants, civil society groups, and the media, acknowledging their roles in ensuring a dignified and memorable farewell for the former president.
