Blessing CEO Blames Social Media and Women’s Independence for Modern Marital Breakdowns”
Controversial relationship therapist Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has shared her views on the challenges facing modern marriages.
In a recent interview with Instablog TV, she attributed the increasing rate of marital breakdowns in today’s society to excessive communication and the pervasive influence of social media.
According to her, traditional community structures that once helped mediate and resolve marital conflicts have become ineffective in modern times. She also pointed out that the rise in women’s exposure and independence—while empowering—can sometimes create difficulties in maintaining relationship balance.
Blessing CEO emphasized that a woman’s success can unintentionally make her husband feel insecure—not because of her achievements, but due to the perceived threat it poses to his masculinity.
She advised women to remain soft and feminine, even when they are successful. According to her, when women become overly assertive or competitive, it can lead to emotional distance, infidelity, or even the end of the marriage.
“In our generation, because I’m working and earning money, even if I’m quarreling with my husband, what do I need him for? Once a woman becomes independent, she begins to rub shoulders with men,” she said.
“A lot of people say that whenever a woman becomes successful, the man becomes insecure. The truth is, no man is intimidated by your success—they are only afraid of the masculinity that comes with it.”
“So women should always remember to be soft, no matter how much they have. Once you start dragging shoulders with your husband, he starts to cheat or seeks a woman who is softer—or he leaves the marriage,” Blessing CEO concluded.
