The Governor of Benue State, Hycient Alia, has reiterated his call for peace, unity, and collaboration among stakeholders, emphasizing that synergy remains essential to achieving the envisioned “Renaissance” for the state.

 

Since assuming office, Governor Alia has consistently urged political leaders, community actors, and citizens to embrace harmony as a pathway to sustainable development and progress. His administration, he noted, is focused on rebuilding the state and delivering on promises made to the people.

 

The governor’s efforts align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, under which Alia is regarded as a key ally working to drive visible development projects. Observers say these efforts have contributed to a wave of defections from opposition parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State.

 

However, recent reports published in Blueprint Newspaper have stirred controversy, alleging internal divisions within the APC in the state. The publication suggested that loyalists of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, may be mobilising against Governor Alia ahead of the 2027 elections.

 

The claims have raised concerns among party faithful and stakeholders, given Akume’s prominent role within the APC and his earlier endorsement of Alia as the party’s candidate in the 2023 governorship election.

 

Political analysts note that, as a senior government official, Akume is expected to promote unity and peaceful conflict resolution, particularly in his home state. The reported tensions, if unresolved, could undermine party cohesion at a critical time when preparations for future elections are gradually taking shape.

 

Despite the speculation, supporters of Governor Alia maintain that his administration continues to enjoy widespread grassroots backing, citing ongoing developmental projects and governance reforms. Many residents have also expressed confidence in his leadership and support for continuity beyond his current tenure.

 

Addressing the situation, the governor’s spokesman, Tersoo Kalu, dismissed any suggestion of political alliances capable of undermining the administration or the APC. He reaffirmed that Governor Alia remains committed to party unity and inclusive leadership.

 

According to Kalu, the governor has consistently engaged stakeholders through meetings, party functions, and consultations aimed at strengthening internal cohesion. He added that the administration’s focus remains on delivering the promised “New Benue” agenda.

 

The spokesman further highlighted the growing support base of the governor, noting that several opposition figures, including members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have recently defected to the APC in support of Alia’s development drive.

 

As political activities gradually intensify, stakeholders have continued to call for restraint, dialogue, and unity within party ranks to sustain progress and avoid distractions that could hinder governance in the state.
