Bayelsa Queens have clinched the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title after a commanding 4-1 victory over Naija Ratels on the final day of the Super Six playoffs at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

 

The Prosperity Girls delivered a dominant performance to claim their sixth league crown, overcoming a highly competitive field that saw four teams — Bayelsa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens, and Remo Stars Ladies — in contention on the final matchday.

 

Vera Samuel was the standout star of the day, netting a sensational hat-trick in the 28th, 61st, and 67th minutes, while Mega Cynthia added a fourth goal in the 47th minute. Naija Ratels briefly leveled through Tumininu Adeshina in the 42nd minute, but Bayelsa’s quality and intensity proved too much to handle.

 

In another tightly contested encounter, Rivers Angels edged Remo Stars Ladies 2-1, thanks to a brace from Titilayo Aweda (27’, 48’), while Aisha Animashaun grabbed a late consolation for the hosts in the 70th minute. Both teams finished on seven points, but Rivers Angels edged Remo Stars on goal difference.

 

The clash between Nasarawa Amazons and Edo Queens ended in a goalless draw, sealing Nasarawa’s place as runners-up with nine points, and placing Edo Queens third with eight points.

For their title-winning feat, Bayelsa Queens received a ₦10 million prize. Nasarawa Amazons and Edo Queens earned ₦6 million and ₦4 million respectively, while Rivers Angels, Remo Stars Ladies, and Naija Ratels each received ₦1.5 million.

 

The trophy presentation was led by Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, wife of the Ogun State Governor, alongside NWFL board members, Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports, Daniel Igali, and host club chairman Kunle Soname of Remo Stars.

 

NWFL Chairperson Nkechi Obi praised the season’s quality, calling it “the most competitive Super Six yet” and commended Bayelsa Queens for their “experience, grit, and attacking flair.”

 

Remo Stars President Kunle Soname described the event as a milestone for Nigerian women’s football. “The energy, organisation, and quality of play have been incredible. Hosting this has been a landmark moment.”

 

Bayelsa Queens will now represent Nigeria in the CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire, aiming for a spot at the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club Championship.
