For years, the relationship between the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was marked by discord, often resembling a rivalry rather than a partnership. However, the tide has turned, and a new era of unity, collaboration, and progress has begun. Under the leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko as NSC Chairman and Hon. Bukola Olopade as Director General, the two institutions are working hand in hand to uplift Nigerian football to unprecedented heights.
Speaking after Nigeria’s crucial victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda, Hon. Olopade lauded the remarkable synergy between the NSC and NFF, emphasizing that this partnership is the foundation for a brighter future for Nigerian football.
“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the National Sports Commission and the NFF. His vision and commitment to sports development were evident in the strong presence of Nigerian fans in Kigali, passionately cheering the Super Eagles in a make-or-break encounter. This level of support underscores Mr. President’s dedication to youth-focused programs and his desire to see Nigerian football flourish on the global stage," Olopade stated.
He went on to commend the leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko, whose strategic direction is steering Nigerian football into a new era of excellence.
"The collaboration between the NSC and NFF is not just different; it is transformative. It is fresh, solid, and built on a shared vision of progress. With this kind of unity, I have no doubt that Nigerian football will reach new heights. This partnership is the key to unlocking our full potential, and it will take us to places we have only dreamed of before," he declared.
The Director General also praised NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, for his exceptional leadership and tireless efforts in ensuring that the Super Eagles had top-notch preparation and seamless logistics ahead of the crucial qualifier.
"He has done a yeoman’s job, going above and beyond to create the right environment for success. The meticulous planning, attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to the team’s welfare played a huge role in securing this result. His dedication to Nigerian football is evident, and we are beginning to see the positive impact of his leadership," Olopade stated.
He also expressed his optimism about the future, emphasizing the need to sustain and build on the current momentum.
"I am incredibly excited about what lies ahead for Nigerian sports. The Super Eagles’ performance is a testament to what we can achieve with proper planning, collaboration, and unwavering commitment. Now, we must consolidate our efforts, remain focused, and continue to push forward. If we stay on this path, Nigerian sports will not only dominate Africa but also make a resounding impact on the global stage," he concluded.
With this renewed sense of purpose and collaboration, Nigerian football is on the cusp of something special. The future is bright, and with the NSC and NFF working together, the journey ahead promises to be nothing short of extraordinary.
