BY SAB OSUJI
Awka City Stadium has been confirmed as one of the host venues for the 2014 Nationwide League 2 Playoffs, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
The Playoffs has been billed to get underway 13 July and will be the second in succession the tournament would be held in the Anambra State capital.
And this brings to the fore, the silent but salient football revolution sweeping through the South East State of Anambra in the last two years.
"Yes, the NLO2 Playoffs will hold in Awka", Chikelue Iloenyosi, Chairman, Anambra State Football Association, confirms Exclusivenews.com.ng inquiry.
"We've received approval from the NLO Secretariat to stage the Playoffs here in Awka", Iloenyosi, who is called 'General' added.
In 2023, the Awka City Stadium hosted both the NLO1 and NLO2 Playoffs with Enugu Coal City Utd crowned as overall winners of the NLO1 Playoffs.
They went further to edge Kun Khalifa of Owerri 3-2 in the Zonal finals inside Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, to seal a Nigeria National League, NNL slot.
In the NLO2 Playoffs, Ikukuoma FC, Mbaise, came, saw and conquered all available opponents including rampant and ambitious Ozalla FA to earn promotion to the NLO1.
This time out, Ozalla FA could be the favourites for the top lift even as young Proprietor and sole financier, Ikenna Osueke, continues to drill his boys for the big showdown.
"We've just gone through several talent hunt programs in Akwa Ibom and Lagos, about four talent programs in all", Osueke said while addressing his players after a training session.
"We remain eternally grateful to God for His grace and mercies that we concluded those exercises without any form of injuries or sad news.
"Now, our next assignment is the NLO2 Playoffs which comes up in July, that's a couple of weeks from now. That's where our focus is at the moment", Osueke, who's called coach, said.
