The African Union Sports Council Region 2 (AUSC Region 2) has signed a strategic partnership agreement with ASKY Airlines, naming the airline the Official Airline Partner for the 2026 AUSC Region 2 Games scheduled to take place in Banjul, The Gambia from June 7 to 13, 2026.

 

The agreement marks a key milestone in preparations for the regional multi-sport event, strengthening collaboration between the sports sector and the aviation industry in West Africa. Under the partnership, ASKY Airlines will provide travel support and logistical assistance to participating teams, officials, and stakeholders attending the Games.

 

The AUSC Region 2 Games are regarded as one of the region’s premier sporting competitions, bringing together athletes from member states across West Africa to promote youth development, regional integration, and sporting excellence.

 

Chairman of the AUSC Region 2 Conference, Malam Shehu Dikko, emphasized the importance of strong partnerships in delivering successful regional sporting events.

 

According to him, ASKY Airlines’ extensive network across Africa makes the airline an ideal partner for facilitating travel and improving connectivity among participating countries.

 

“This partnership with ASKY Airlines represents a major milestone in our preparations for the AUSC Region 2 Games. Reliable air connectivity is essential for the successful hosting of a regional event of this magnitude. We are delighted to welcome ASKY Airlines as the Official Airline Partner for the Games in The Gambia,” Dikko said.

 

Management of ASKY Airlines also expressed pride in supporting sports development across the region, noting that the partnership aligns with the airline’s commitment to promoting unity, youth empowerment, and regional cooperation through sports.

 

The Games are expected to attract athletes, officials, and sports enthusiasts from across West Africa for a week-long celebration of sport, culture, and friendship. The event will also provide a platform to showcase emerging athletic talent while strengthening ties among participating countries.

 

Chairman of the AUSC Region 2 Committee of Experts and Director-General of the National Sports Commission Nigeria, Adebukola Olopade, also extended appreciation to ASKY Airlines for its support.

 

Olopade said the partnership reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to advance sports development and deepen regional integration.
