The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to resign his appointment and focus his attention on what he described as an unhealthy fixation with politics in Rivers State.

 

Basiru made the call in a statement issued on Monday, where he emphasized that members of the party’s national leadership must accord due respect to sitting governors and recognise them as the political heads of the party in their respective states.

 

He stressed that the position of state governors within the APC structure should not be undermined by any individual, regardless of status or office held.

 

The APC scribe was reacting to earlier comments attributed to Wike, in which the minister reportedly advised him to steer clear of political affairs in Rivers State.

 

According to Basiru, party discipline and internal order are essential for the stability and unity of the APC, warning that actions capable of undermining established party hierarchy could deepen internal divisions.

 

He urged all party leaders to act with restraint and in line with the party’s constitution, noting that personal interests should not override collective goals.

 

The exchange underscores growing tension over influence and control within the APC in Rivers State, as senior party figures continue to trade words over authority and direction within the ruling party.
