The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, of being the architect of his party’s current disintegration, rejecting his claims that the ruling party is meddling in opposition affairs.

 

In a statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party dismissed Atiku’s allegation that APC was offering ₦50 million to opposition leaders to destabilize their parties, calling it “bogus and laughable.”

 

The APC also criticized Atiku’s remarks at the National Conference on Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria, held in Abuja on January 27, 2025, where he warned that judicial involvement in electoral matters threatened democracy. The party found it ironic that Atiku, described as “Nigeria’s most prolific electoral litigator,” would oppose judicial oversight in elections.

 

Recalling alleged election irregularities during Atiku’s tenure as Vice President, the APC pointed to the controversial 2003 and 2007 elections, accusing the PDP of manipulating the democratic process.

 

“Atiku’s political desperation is responsible for the PDP’s catastrophic disintegration. Instead of spreading unsubstantiated rumors, he should focus on rebuilding his party and offering solutions to Nigeria’s challenges,” the statement read.

 

The APC also dismissed claims by opposition figures—including Atiku, Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai—that the ruling party was undermining opposition groups.

 

“As discerning citizens, Nigerians know better than to be distracted by false alarms and hollow allegations of desperate politicians,” Morka said.

 

The APC urged all political actors to prioritize national development over personal ambitions as preparations for the 2027 general elections gain momentum.
