World record holder Tobi Amusan will spearhead a four-athlete Nigerian contingent at the 12th leg of the Diamond League in Silesia, Poland, on Saturday, as they push for qualification to the season-ending finals in Zurich.

 

Fresh from clinching her fifth consecutive national 100m hurdles title in Lagos, Amusan is chasing a fourth Diamond Trophy. She currently sits second in the season standings with 17 points, behind American Grace Stark, and will be competing in the event for the sixth time this year.

 

Joining her in Silesia is Favour Ofili, who will make her Diamond League season debut in the 200m. Ofili, who is reportedly on the verge of switching allegiance to Turkey, is ranked 17th in the 100m standings with four points after finishing fifth at her season opener in Oregon’s Prefontaine Classic.

 

Ezekiel Nathaniel returns for his second-ever Diamond League appearance in the 400m hurdles, buoyed by a podium finish in Oregon.

 

In the men’s shot put, African record holder Chukwuebuka Enekwechi — currently sixth in the Diamond League standings — will look to improve his position with another strong performance, building on the 22.10m throw he registered in Oregon.

 

The Nigerian athletes will be aiming to secure enough points in Silesia to confirm their places in the Zurich finals scheduled for September.
