The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Football Coaches Council has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, with discussions centered on grassroots football, talent discovery, and youth development.

 

The delegation, led by Council Leader Coach Owojori Kenny, included Council Secretary Mike Attah, Treasurer Otunba Bob Oluwole, and Public Relations Officer Odogwu Ifeanyi Ubah.

 

During the meeting, Coach Owojori emphasized the critical role grassroots football plays in nurturing future talents and sustaining Nigeria’s sports ecosystem. He described local football societies across AMAC as “the foundation of national talent development,” urging the NSC to prioritize grassroots structures under the Renewed Hope Initiative—a national strategy aimed at revitalizing the country’s sports economy.

 

“The talent at the grassroots is abundant, but it needs structured support. We urge the Commission to channel more attention and resources to these areas if we are to build a lasting sports legacy,” Owojori stated.

 

As a symbolic gesture, the Council presented a newly branded jersey to the NSC Chairman. In response, Mallam Shehu Dikko expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the Council’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and sports development.

 

“Grassroots sports are the bedrock of national success. We are committed to strengthening these foundations and supporting initiatives that identify and nurture young talents,” said Dikko. “Our future in football—and indeed all sports—relies on building from the bottom up.”

 

The meeting served not only to reinforce the Council’s dedication to grassroots football but also marked the beginning of a promising collaboration between the NSC and AMAC football stakeholders. Both parties expressed a shared vision to develop future champions who can drive Nigeria’s sporting resurgence on the continental and global stage.
