The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) FCT Chapter, in a move to honor and inspire its members who have excelled in delivering top-notch healthcare services to Nigerians while combating medical tourism, presented awards of excellence during its 2024 dinner and award ceremony in Abuja.

The prestigious event, filled with pride and professionalism, included various award categories. Among them, Dr. Christopher Otabor, the Medical Director of Alliance Hospital, received the accolade for medical entrepreneurship, greeted with a thunderous applause. He was lauded for his exceptional contributions to the nation's healthcare sector.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Otabor highlighted the remarkable progress Alliance Hospital has achieved since its establishment in 2011. The hospital's primary goal was to curb the escalating trend of medical tourism, which has been depleting Nigeria's foreign currency reserves. Over the years, Alliance Hospital has transformed into a beacon of hope for patients seeking world-class medical care within the country.

"Our vision has always been crystal clear: to establish a healthcare institution equipped with cutting-edge technology and staffed with highly proficient medical professionals capable of delivering unparalleled care,"stated Dr. Otabor.

He proceeded to outline the hospital's numerous accomplishments, such as conducting over 100 successful kidney transplants, 156 spine surgeries, and 72 knee replacement procedures. These achievements have collectively saved Nigeria more than $100 million in medical expenses that would have otherwise been spent overseas.

Dr. Otabor also underscored Alliance Hospital's dedication to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), emphasizing the hospital's provision of free surgeries to individuals battling life-threatening conditions.

"This prestigious award in Medical Entrepreneurship from the NMA is not merely a recognition; it signifies the impact we have already made and will continue to make in Nigeria's healthcare landscape,"he added.
The event was further enriched by the words of the former chairman of the NMA FCT Chapter, who expressed gratitude for his tenure. He assured attendees that he leaves behind an association ready to uphold quality healthcare in alignment with global best practices.

The pinnacle of the evening was the presentation of awards to distinguished individuals and committee members who had displayed exemplary service throughout the year.

The gathering exemplified the unity and shared vision of the medical community in advancing Nigeria's healthcare system to international standards.
With the new executives assuming leadership, there is renewed optimism that the NMA FCT Chapter will persist in upholding the values of excellence, integrity, and service, ensuring every Nigerian has access to the highest quality healthcare services.
