Preparations are in top gear for the much-anticipated 20th edition of the Gwagwalada Football League (GFL), as the Organizing Committee officially announced that registration will close on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Patrick Ngwaogu, popularly known as Odogwu, confirmed that the draws for the tournament will be conducted immediately after the registration deadline, with the competition scheduled to kick off in the second week of September.

Odogwu, who also served as the first Chairman of the Organizing Committee when the league began in 2005, expressed confidence that this year’s milestone edition will be one to remember.

“Our teams are eager for the league to commence, as they all want to be part of history. We are set to give them the best,” he said.

He further emphasized that his team is working round the clock to ensure a smooth and exciting tournament, calling on teams still interested to register without delay before the deadline.

Launched in 2005 with just 10 teams, the Gwagwalada Football League has grown into the flagship football tournament in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The inaugural season was won by Lion Hearts FC, setting the stage for what has become a staple of grassroots football development in the region.

As the league celebrates two decades of uniting communities through sport, fans, players, and stakeholders are eagerly counting down to what promises to be an electrifying season of football excellence.
