Montpellier’s attacking firepower was on full display in their 4-2 victory over Reims in the French Division 1 Féminine, but for Ifeoma Onumonu, the match held extra significance—it marked the end of her 52-day goal drought.

Onumonu Breaks Her Goal Drought in a Six-Goal Thriller

After an impressive six-goal streak in five games, Onumonu unexpectedly endured a four-match dry spell. However, she returned to form in stunning fashion.

With Montpellier leading 2-1 in the 78th minute, the 29-year-old capitalized on an opening to extend the lead, giving her team full control. While Judith Coquet stole the spotlight with a hat-trick, Onumonu’s moment of brilliance provided the final push for victory.

Montpellier Back to Winning Ways

Coming off a 4-1 loss to PSG, Montpellier needed a response—and they delivered.

• Coquet opened the scoring in the 49th minute, but Monique Ngock quickly equalized for Reims.

• Coquet restored the lead in the 71st minute, followed by Onumonu’s composed finish to make it 3-1.

• A defensive mishap led to a Celeste Boureille own goal, before Coquet completed her hat-trick in the 86th minute.

With this crucial win, Montpellier climbed to 6th place with 22 points, snapping their three-game losing streak.

Onumonu and her teammates will now shift focus to their next clash against Saint-Étienne next Sunday.
