It is with a profound sense of duty that I address you today. Recent developments within our great party, the PDP, demand deep reflection on the management of our affairs, particularly in our role as the main opposition and as a party committed to the principles of equity, fairness, and justice—values upon which our founding fathers built this party.

I am humbled by the overwhelming messages of support and solidarity I have received from our members across the country. The enthusiasm and relief expressed reflect the strong desire for a PDP that is democratic, united, and firmly grounded in its constitution.

Regrettably, we must admit that we have fallen short of fulfilling our vital role as a robust opposition. This failure, largely driven by personal and political interests overshadowing party goals, has weakened our effectiveness, particularly at the national level.

This state of affairs has hindered the PDP's performance as the admired platform it once was, a party that Nigerians looked up to during our 16 years in government, often referred to as the golden era of governance in Nigeria.

On October 10, 2024, the National Working Committee (NWC) of our party entrusted me with the responsibility of Acting National Chairman. My mission is to revitalize our party, reignite hope, especially among the youth and critical stakeholders, and ensure the PDP plays its role as an effective opposition, fostering a responsible and responsive government.

Under my leadership, the NWC will adhere strictly to the party’s constitution, and I pledge to be fair to all members, regardless of their position or state. This fairness is key to earning the loyalty and commitment of our members.

My immediate focus is to restore confidence by setting in motion plans for the long-overdue National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, now scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2024.

As per our constitution, the North Central Zone, which is entitled to nominate a replacement for the former National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, is requested to urgently submit its nominee for consideration at the NEC meeting.

I sincerely seek the support and cooperation of my fellow NWC members, the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees, the National Assembly Caucus, and all stakeholders in making this NEC meeting a success.
