The African Union Sports Council has thrown its support behind the Delta Senators U19 Unifier Cup, a youth football tournament aimed at discovering and promoting talented young players from the grassroots.
A strategic meeting was held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium where top officials of the African Union Sports Council were officially unveiled in support of the tournament.
The meeting, convened by Onoriode Omagufi, featured the unveiling of Michael Shamsu Mustapha and Abdoul-Rafiou Assoumanou.
Discussions at the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the African Union Sports Council and the tournament organisers to create opportunities for young Nigerian football talents to be scouted by international agents and professional clubs.
According to the organisers, the AU Sports Council delegation will be present throughout the 10-day tournament scheduled to take place in Delta State, where they will provide institutional support and observe the competition as part of their commitment to youth sports development across Africa.
Omagufi noted that the Delta Senators U19 Unifier Cup goes beyond football competition, stressing that the initiative is designed to empower young people, promote unity and open international pathways for emerging Nigerian talents.
Officials of the African Union Sports Council commended the initiative and expressed readiness to support programmes that advance grassroots football and sports development across the African continent.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment by both parties to ensure the success of the tournament and to continue promoting youth development through sports.
