The African Military Games (AMGA) 2024 in Abuja witnessed thrilling volleyball action on Sunday, with Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Kenya claiming their first victories in the men's volleyball competition.

Algeria triumphed over host nation Nigeria in a 3-1 victory (26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22) at the Moshood Abiola Stadium's indoor sports hall. Despite the energetic support from the home fans, Nigeria struggled to keep up with the Algerian side's relentless attack.

Nigeria's head coach, Solomon Zango, acknowledged the challenge but remained optimistic about the team's prospects. "We have to refocus and concentrate on the upcoming matches. There's no room for complacency. Our next goal is to make sure we don't drop any more points."

In another exciting match, Kenya staged a stunning comeback against Ghana, winning 3-2 (15-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-11) after initially trailing by two sets. The Kenyan squad's resilience and determination were on full display as they rallied to secure a dramatic win.

Burkina Faso also dominated their match, sweeping aside Sierra Leone with a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-15, 25-21) in under an hour. The Burkinabe team's precision and speed left little room for their opponents, making the match a one-sided affair.

The volleyball competition continues on Monday, with Burkina Faso facing Kenya at noon, followed by a crucial match between Algeria and Kenya at 2 pm. Host Nigeria will aim to bounce back when they take on Sierra Leone at 4 pm.
