Abia Govment Don Ban Nursery & Lower Primary Graduation, Stop Students from Changing School After SS2
Abia State govment don introduce new education laws wey go reduce wahala for parents pocket and improve how schools dey run for di state.
After one Executive Council meeting for Umuahia wey Govnor Alex Otti chair, di Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, tell journalists say from now on, graduation party go only happen for Primary 6 and SS3 students — both for private and public schools.
Di Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Goodluck Ubochi, talk say e no make sense make small pikin for nursery or lower primary dey do graduation wey go make parents spend money anyhow.
“We wan bring sense back into our school system and stop unnecessary spending for families,” Ubochi yan.
Another new policy na say textbooks and workbooks must dey sold separately. Dis one go help parents pass textbook down to younger ones, while each child fit use him own workbook.
“Na way to reduce yearly expenses on school materials,” according to Ubochi.
Govment still direct say schools no go charge more than ₦2,000 for Primary 6 certificate (First School Leaving Certificate). Dem beg parents to collect di certificate because many dey gather dust for school office.
From now, if you wan write WAEC, NECO or JAMB, you must show say you get Basic Education Certificate. Plus, you no go enter SS3 if you never pass the mandatory promotion exam wey di state go organize for SS2 students.
To fight exam malpractice and help track student record well, govment don ban transfer from SS2 to SS3.
“All students — whether for private or public school — must write our state promotion exam. No more waka from one school to another after SS2,” Ubochi warn.
