In a bold move aimed at repositioning the club for greater success, Abia Comets Football Club of Umuahia has announced a significant managerial overhaul with the appointment of former Bayelsa United tactician, Dipreye Teibowei, as the club’s new Technical Adviser.

 

Joining him on the bench is Monday Eguavoen, the former head coach of 1472 FC, who has been named Chief Coach, taking over from Okechukwu Ejeh, whose contract expired at the end of the 2024/25 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

 

Club Chairman, Chief Boniface Alozie Uche, formally introduced the new technical duo during a media unveiling ceremony and expressed confidence in their ability to elevate the club to new heights.

 

“These are experienced and knowledgeable coaches who know the game well. We believe they are the right people to take this club to a higher level,” Chief Boniface said.

 

He also charged the rest of the technical crew to work collaboratively with the new coaches to ensure the club performs better in the upcoming 2025/26 NNL season.

 

In his first statement after being unveiled, Teibowei, a former Nigerian international and long-serving Bayelsa United coach, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and revealed his ambitious targets for the team.

 

“I want to thank the chairman and everyone at Abia Comets for this opportunity. My goal is not just to get into the NNL Super 8 playoffs, but to secure **promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL),” Teibowei said.

 

“We will work as one team – everyone has a role to play – and together, we can move the club forward.”

 

New Chief Coach Monday Eguavoen echoed Teibowei’s sentiments, promising unity within the technical crew and a collective push toward the club’s targets.

 

“We’ll work together as a team. I’m grateful for the opportunity and we’re ready to get results and improve the team.”

 

Teibowei brings a wealth of experience, having spent a decade guiding Bayelsa United through various competitive campaigns, while Eguavoen arrives with a growing reputation from his time at 1472 FC.

 

The duo’s immediate task will be to rebuild and reposition Abia Comets as strong contenders for the 2025/26 NNL Super 8, with the ultimate goal of gaining promotion to the NPFL.

 

The club, which narrowly missed out on playoff qualification last season, now looks poised for a resurgence under its new technical leadership.
