Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, don allege say Department of State Services (DSS) dey plan to re-arrest am from Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja.

 

Earlier reports don show say Federal High Court on Wednesday grant Malami, im wife and im son bail of N500 million each, with two sureties per person.

 

But for statement wey im Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka release, Malami allege say DSS operatives don station themselves around the correctional centre to make sure say dem re-arrest am immediately after im release on bail.

 

According to the statement, “We don get credible information say fresh plans dey to re-arrest Malami on wetin we believe be cooked-up and unrelated charges, immediately after im release on bail for this current matter.

 

“Our intelligence also show say operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) don mount surveillance and dey on standby to carry out this plan.”

 

The statement further talk say this kind action—where court grant bail on paper but authorities dey prepare fresh arrest to keep person for detention—na serious attack on constitutional rights and misuse of government power.

 

“This kind move dey weaken public trust for the justice system and dey raise serious question about respect for court authority,” the statement add.

 

Malami camp also raise alarm about im safety, im family and staff, insisting say dem dey under serious threat.

 

“We dey put am clearly on record say the safety of Abubakar Malami, SAN, im family and im staff dey at serious risk. Any intimidation, illegal detention or harm wey come out from this action must be fully accounted for by those wey responsible,” the statement conclude.
