Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has shared how he once fired his first daughter for arriving late to work at his farm.

Speaking while receiving the new Chairman of the Board of Management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Dr. Dayo Israel, at his residence, Obasanjo recounted the incident, which occurred shortly after his tenure as Head of State.

According to him, his daughter, who was studying Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan, joined his farm for practical training. However, she arrived at 7:15 a.m. on her first day instead of the required 7:00 a.m., prompting a warning. When she repeated the offense the next day, Obasanjo sent her home immediately.

“This had a significant impact on my employees, who said, ‘If Baba could do this to his daughter, who are we?’” he noted.

Obasanjo urged Dr. Israel to uphold discipline and not shy away from stepping on toes when necessary in his new role.
