One 25-year-old student, Joseph Abodunrin, don take e own life for Dagbolu community inside Olorunda Local Government Area, Osogbo, Osun State, because of the economic hardship wey dey the country.

Abodunrin, wey be first-class student for Material and Metallurgical Engineering for Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna), reportedly drop out before e end e life on Monday, March 24, 2025.

 

Before e die, e don drop like 88 suicidal tweets since December. For January 31, e write say, “If no be because of my siblings, I for don end am since. Those small children still get hope and dream, I no wan spoil am with news of my death.”

 

On March 24, the day wey e end am, e come quote that same tweet say, “I’m sorry I failed you guys, I no fit do am again. No matter how I explain am, una no go understand.”

People wey sabi Abodunrin talk say e be wan be the next Elon Musk, but e feel say as e dey Nigeria, e dreams don already get handicap. Na im make e push e startup Data Wall enter Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF 25) grant, but when dem no select am, e spirit just break.

 

One close friend talk say as e clock 25, e feel say time don dey run out for am, and e no sure say e go make am for society wey no favor young people. “We try talk sense give am, but e say the longer e dey alive, the smaller e world dey feel.”

 

E still celebrate e 25th birthday for February 6, but e pain still dey hide under e smile.

One of e family members, Abodunrin Grace, confirm e death for X (Twitter) on Thursday. She talk say Joseph dey always act like everything dey okay, but deep down, e dey suffer. “You be best brother. You encourage all of us, but you no tell us wetin you dey go through. Now we no fit get over am.”

 

She beg people make dem prioritize their mental health, because life no easy for anybody.

 

Meanwhile, Osun State Police spokesperson, ASP Akeem Adeoye, talk say e never hear about the matter, but if any update dey, e go let people know.
