The 2026 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations could face another postponement after a scheduling conflict emerged with the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

 

The continental tournament, organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), was originally scheduled to take place from March 17 to April 4, 2026. However, the competition was recently rescheduled to run from July 25 to August 16, 2026.

 

Fresh concerns have now arisen after it was discovered that the revised dates overlap with the Commonwealth Games, which are set to take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026.

 

The clash in the international sporting calendar could affect several aspects of the competition, including player availability, travel logistics, and global broadcast planning. Many stakeholders fear that the overlap may impact teams whose players could be involved in both events or face conflicting national commitments.

 

Further complicating the situation is the tournament’s proximity to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to conclude just a week before the proposed kickoff of the women’s continental championship.

 

With multiple major sporting events packed into a short period, discussions have reportedly begun about the possibility of adjusting the tournament dates once again to avoid logistical challenges.
