The Nigerian Teqball Federation, in conjunction with the Abia State Teqball Association, is set to stage the maiden edition of the National Teqball League tagged “Aba 2026.” The four-day sporting event will take place at the Aba Sports Club from March 25 to March 28, 2026, bringing together athletes and officials from across the country.

The landmark event is facilitated by the Honourable Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development in Abia State, Sir Nwaobilor Nwadinma Ananaba, and is sponsored by the Abia State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, Executive Governor of Abia State. The initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to developing and promoting sports as a key component of youth engagement and economic growth in the state.

Organisers expect over 300 athletes and officials from 18 states, representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, to participate in the inaugural league. The competition, endorsed by the International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ), marks a significant milestone in the growth of teqball in Nigeria and provides a platform for athletes to compete at the highest level of the sport.

Teqball, widely regarded as one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, blends elements of football and table tennis and is played on a specially curved table. The sport has gained global popularity for its technical flair, agility, and entertainment value.

Sports enthusiasts and members of the public are invited to attend the historic event and witness top-level teqball action. Matches will commence daily at 9:00 a.m. throughout the competition period.

Beyond the sporting spectacle, organisers say the event also offers visitors an opportunity to experience the ongoing transformation taking place in Abia State.

“With a New Abia on the rise, this championship provides a perfect opportunity for Nigerians to visit the state and witness the remarkable progress and development underway,” the organisers stated.
