Youth League: Gombe Boss Commends NPFL
The League Board of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has been commended for the creation of NPFL Youth League in the country.
General manager of Gombe United Football Club, Alhaji Abubakar Dan Fulani gave the commendation during a popular Super Interview sesion on the leading WhatsApp platform in Nigeria, Sports World on Monday.
Dan Fulani said that, the position of local players in the national team is a major problem from U-17, U-20 to U-23.
The vastly experienced football administrator, noted that having local players in the national teams was obvious when late Stephen Keshi was handling the Super Eagles as he gave the home based players the chance in the team.
The Gombe United helmsman further cited that, the home based contributed immensely to the last Africa Cup of Nations the country won in South Africa in 2013 with Sunday Mba scoring the winner in the final.
He noted that during his time at Sunshine Stars as General Coordinator, the club had several players like Geodfrey Oboboana, Cletus Itodo, Akumbo, Ajani Ibrahim and Moses Ocheje in the Super Eagles and they all did well
Alhaji Abubakar therefore affirmed that the creation of NPFL Youth League by NPFL Board under Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye is a panacea to the problem of national teams like U-17, U-20, U-23 and Super Eagles.
He further reiterated that:” Having technical Director of NFF Augustine Eguavoen and national team coaches present watching the boys in Benin can pick some boys for U-17, U-20, and promote them to U-23 and Super Eagles with real age.
The former 3SC noted that players like Garba Lawal, Tijani Babaginda, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Joseph Yobo, Taribo West and Sunday Oliseh came from the grassroots and they ruled the world
He said that, if things can be properly done and the right way, our national teams will be back as we used to have before.
In his submission, he stated that : Well, I think having this under Pastor Emeka Inyama steering this Youth league is a plus to the feat achieved under the led board under Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye. He has tried in this feat, and if they can continue the process of the NPFL Youth League, we will have a better Super Eagles tomorrow
