NPFL club side Heartland FC of Owerri has declared that they are not owing any player, insisting that protesting players are only ‘Ghost Players’ that were not signed by the club.

Heartland players on Wednesday took the the major streets of Owerri to protest the none payment of their nine months salaries and allowances. The players carrying various placards are appealing to the State Governor. Hope Uzodinma to come to their rescue.

In an immediate reaction, the management of Heartland FC in a release on its social media platforms, said the club is being distracted by players who have since been off loaded, as they are owing none of their players.

The club pointed out that the players who are protesting non payment of salaries are those who almost played the club into relegation last season.

The management was quick to add that the players who have been sweating it out on the pitch this season are focused on the task ahead haven seen that government is not toying with their welfare.

“Every club has challenge just like Heartland. Our players are aware that the Imo state government is not toying with their welfare which goes beyond salaries. It is unfortunate that some players who have since been off loaded for not living up to expectation are hell bent on derailing our plans. But we are on top of the situation and won’t allow that to happen,” the club’s management stated.

It stressed that no player signed on this season is being owed nine months salaries as the public is being misled into believing.

The management charged supporters of the club to keep backing the team as they did in the 1-0 home victory against Wikki over the weekend.
