The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of Abaji Area Council that the long-delayed FCT University of Science and Technology will soon commence full operations under the current administration.

 

Wike gave the assurance on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, during a thank-you visit to the council, where he addressed traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents.

 

Responding to appeals from the Ona of Abaji, Adamu Baba Yunusa, and the Chairman of the Area Council, Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, the minister reiterated the commitment of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to completing the university project and ensuring the commencement of full academic activities.

 

He urged residents to remain patient, noting that the institution would serve not only as a centre for higher learning but also as a catalyst for economic growth and development in the area.

 

According to Wike, once operational, the university is expected to generate employment opportunities, attract investments, and position Abaji as a key educational and economic hub within the FCT.

 

“Let me assure you that under this administration, that university will start operation. All I pray for you is to be patient. We have made a promise that the University of Science and Technology will become a reality,” he said.

 

The minister also announced the upgrading of traditional stools across the FCT, elevating all second-class chiefs to first-class status and all third-class chiefs to second-class, in recognition of their roles in promoting peace and community development.

 

The renewed commitment has raised hopes among residents that the long-awaited institution will finally take off, marking a significant step in the development of Abaji and its surrounding communities.
