As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike is reportedly mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

 

According to findings, the Wike-aligned bloc within the opposition party is considering backing Tinubu’s second-term bid rather than presenting a conventional PDP presidential candidate in 2027. Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, has openly declared his support for Tinubu.

 

“I will support President Tinubu for a second term,” Wike has stated, reaffirming his stance and dismissing speculation about any personal presidential ambition. He has also indicated willingness to support Tinubu through 2031.

 

Sources close to the faction revealed that efforts are already underway to align political structures with this objective. Central to the strategy is the formation of a “Rainbow Coalition” in Rivers State, aimed at bringing together political actors across party lines, including members of both the PDP and APC.

 

The emerging alliance signals a potential realignment within Nigeria’s political space, especially in Rivers State, a traditional PDP stronghold where Wike remains a dominant figure. Analysts say the development could reshape opposition dynamics and influence electoral strategies ahead of 2027.

 

While the broader PDP leadership has yet to officially respond to the reported move, the development underscores growing internal divisions within the party and highlights the increasing fluidity of political loyalties as the next election cycle approaches.
