Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has again lashed out at Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of betrayal over an alleged move to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

 

Wike, who spoke angrily amid renewed impeachment threats against Governor Fubara, claimed that the governor had no right to approach President Bola Tinubu over defection plans without first consulting him.

 

“Fubara betrayed me by going to the President to defect instead of coming to me,” Wike was quoted as saying. “He has no right to defect to the APC without my approval. If I approve for him to go, I will be the one to take him to the Presidency.”

 

The former governor described Fubara’s alleged action as an act of disloyalty, bluntly referring to him as a “traitor.”

 

Wike’s outburst comes amid deepening political tension in Rivers State, where the rift between him and his successor has continued to widen, fuelling threats of impeachment and sharp divisions within the state’s political structure.

 

Governor Fubara has yet to publicly respond to the latest comments, and there has been no official confirmation of any plan by the governor to defect to the APC.

 

The ongoing feud between the two leaders has remained a dominant issue in Rivers State politics, raising concerns over governance stability as party loyalists on both sides trade accusations and counterclaims.
