Former Super Eagles winger, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, has officially written to Enyimba International FC, informing the nine-time Nigeria Champions that he has resigned from the club's services, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

In the resignation letter dated 29 January, 2026, Ekwueme said his resignation from the club where he served as the Sporting Director, was voluntary and honourable.

"I, Ifeanyi Emmanuel Ekwueme, former Super Eagles international, have officially stepped aside from my position as Sporting Director of Enyimba Football Club of Aba, thus bringing my service at Nigeria’s most decorated football club to a close", the resignation letter began.

"I wish to clearly state that my exit from Enyimba FC was entirely voluntary and honourable. I was not sacked, dismissed, or forced out of the club. 

"After careful reflection, I formally submitted my resignation to the Chairman in good faith, in order to attend to other personal and professional commitments. I depart the role with pride in the work done and the values upheld during my tenure.

"Serving Enyimba FC was a privilege that i personally find to be deeply fulfilling. During my time as Sporting Director, I worked with dedication and integrity to strengthen the club’s sporting structure, promote professionalism, and safeguarding the identity and standards that define Enyimba as a giant of Nigerian and African football.

"My role at the club included but was not limited to player recruitment, restructuring of the playing squad, internal discipline, and long-term sporting planning, all aimed at ensuring the growth and stability of the club both on and off the pitch.

"I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Governor of Abia State Dr. Alex Otti for his unwavering support and dedication to the development of football in the state, in particular, to Enyimba FC as a badge of Abia State pride and excellence.

"Special thanks are also extended to the Chairman of Enyimba FC, FIFA Ambassador Kanu Nwankwo (Papilo), whom I can boldly say is a friend and brother. I would like to thank the Chairman for the trust reposed in me, the privilege to serve, and the mutual respect accorded to me throughout my tenure, in particular, that it was an honor to work under the leadership of Kanu Nwankwo.

"I would also like to thank the management, technical staff, players, workers, fans, and the entire Enyimba family for their contributions and cooperation, in recognition that football success is a collective responsibility.

"As I move on to the next chapter of my life, I wish the management of Enyimba Football Club all the best in their future endeavors and success, stability, and trophies to match the rich history of the club, in affirmation that Enyimba FC shall always have my respect and goodwill".
