Enugu State Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to better connect the South-East region with Nigeria’s central government.

Making the declaration during a televised broadcast to the people of Enugu, Governor Mbah explained that the move was a strategic decision aimed at advancing the development goals of his administration.

“Today, after a long reflection, we have made a decision to join the All Progressives Congress,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the PDP for the support that helped him win the governorship, acknowledging the party’s role during his election campaign.

“To the Peoples Democratic Party which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend deep gratitude. The PDP supported us through a demanding campaign and joined us in celebrating the victory,” Mbah said.

However, he stressed that leadership often demands difficult and sometimes painful decisions in pursuit of higher principles and goals.

“And there comes always a time where everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny,” he added.

Governor Mbah stated his belief that joining the APC would provide better opportunities for collaboration with the federal government and accelerate development in Enugu State. He reiterated his commitment to serving the people and aligning with the APC’s vision for progress.

Accompanying the governor in the defection were members of the Enugu House of Assembly, local government councillors, and council chairmen.

Mbah also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies, noting that Enugu State has benefited significantly from federal support since Tinubu assumed office.

Meanwhile, strong indications suggest that Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri is poised to announce his defection to the APC soon, as plans have reportedly been finalized.

Earlier this year, governors of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, also defected to the APC with their cabinet members, further consolidating the party’s influence in the South-South region.
