Popular Nigerian social media personality Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, was sentenced to six months in jail on Friday, April 12, by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Bobrisky was arrested last week by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly "spraying naira notes" at a party, which is considered mutilation of the Nigerian currency. The EFCC also investigated Bobrisky for similar actions at other events.

While the EFCC initially included money laundering charges against Bobrisky, these were dismissed by the court. The socialite was ultimately found guilty of naira mutilation and sentenced to six months in jail with no option of fine.

The judgement has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians. Some believe the sentence is too harsh for the crime, with some calling Bobrisky a scapegoat. Others believe the judgement sets an important precedent to deter future violations.
