 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday held a strategic meeting with Nigeria’s newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, focusing on national security priorities and coordinated defence efforts across the military.

 

A statement from the Presidency confirmed that the high-level meeting was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye.

 

According to the statement, the discussions centred on strengthening inter-service collaboration, improving operational efficiency, and developing new strategies to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, and other internal threats.

 

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday received the newly nominated Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja,” the statement read. “The meeting marked the president’s first official engagement with the new military leadership team, as discussions focused on national security priorities and strategic defence coordination.”

 

Monday’s meeting was the first formal interaction between President Tinubu and the new service chiefs since their appointment, following the dismissal of the previous military leadership.

 

The president was said to have emphasized the need for synergy among the various arms of the armed forces, urging the new commanders to work as a unified front to restore peace and security across the nation.

 

The appointment of the new service chiefs is part of President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s security architecture and reinforce public confidence in the country’s defence institutions.
