Nigeria may not win the Fair Play trophy of the current Women’s African Cup of Nations {WAFCON) going on in Morocco as she places 4th on the Disciplinary Table of the tournament scoring four points with four yellow cards in four matches.

Hosts Morocco is poised to keep the trophy having two points from four matches with her two yellow cards; South Africa is second with three points from three yellow cards obtained in four matches while Tunisia is 3rd with three points obtained from her three matches played and three yellow cards.

Tanzania had two bad girls that got red cards and also five yellow cards in their three matches so she has 11 points occupying the 12th position among the 12 teams in the competition. On the 11th position is Senegal that had the highest yellow cards of 10 so she has 10 points.

The Organizers will deduct the monetary amount of the cards obtained from their Prize money.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie of Nigeria may retain the Golden Glove trophy for Goalkeepers as Goalkeeper Chloe Ngazi of Algeria who was adjudged Best Goalkeeper at the Group Stages has been sent home as her team lost to Ghana 2-4 on penalties.  

54 goals have so far been scored in the 22 matches of the group stages and the quarterfinals making 2.45 goals per match. There are two top scorers with 4 goals each in Chizlane Chebbak of Morocco and Nguenar Ndiaye of Senegal who is out of the tournament.

Hotly pursuing Chizlane are Chinwedu Ihezuo of Nigeria; Ibitissam Jraidi also of Morocco as well as Barbra Banda and her compatriot, Rachael Kundananji of Zambia who both are out of the tournament. They have 3 goals each.

Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured $300,000 (approximately N458m)for getting into the semifinals but the cost of indiscipline for cards obtained will be deducted from CAF.

The 3rd place team will get $350;000; the Silver medalists will pocket $500,000 while the winner will cart home $1m (approximately N1.5B). According to CAF, a team is entitled to 30% of their prize money.

The National Sports Commission of Nigeria that oversees all Sporting Associations in the country has instructed that the Nigerian Football Association (NFF) must deduct the 30% monetary allocation directly to Super Falcons right from the reception of the money as directed by CAF which is contrary to past practice as NFF keeps everything and give players peanuts. 

Morocco will host the 16th edition of WAFCON in March 2026 which will be their 3rd consecutive advantage of hosting African women.
