Former International Andrew Uwe has applied for the vacant position of the Head Coach of the National U20 team.

Uwe, the Captain of the 1985 Flying Eagles team that won bronze in USSR told Exclusivenews from his base in Germany that he has equipped himself properly, and believed that the time has come for him to give back to the youths of the country.

Quoting his words, the hard tackling defender of the then dreaded Leventis United of Ibadan, said "I am a product of the various youth development programs in the country, and I believed that I have equipped myself properly to give back to the society".

Uwe played for defunct Leventis United of Ibadan from1982 to 1985

before moving to Belgium to play for SK Roeselare ( 1993-1994 ). In 1994, he played for Williem II Tilburg of Holland and  SV Wehen - Taunusstein in 1995. He retired from active football VfB Oldenburg in 1998 / 1999

Uwe was a member of the U18 team that won the Shagari Cup in 1983, and also the Captain of the U20 in USSR, where they won the bronze medal.
A member of 1988 Olympic  in South Korea and a Silver medalist in 1990 AFCON in Algeria.


As a Coach, the Akwa Ibom born handled Ade youth soccer Academy Houston/Texas, Saint Agnes College Academy in Houston/Texas,  VfB Oldenburg, FC Wittsfeld (Oldenburg), JFV NordWest Oldenburg, GVO Oldenburg (Oldenburg)

He returned to Nigeria in 2020, to handle Vandrezzer Academy Uyo and in
2023 he was appointed as the Technical Director of Real Sapphire FC of Lagos.


Uwe holds both the USA  A , B , and 
Premiership licenses. He also holds UEFA B license and German Elite license.
