The University of Ghana Stadium has been temporarily closed for renovations in preparation for the CAF African Schools Football Championship, set to take place from April 21 to April 26, 2025.

Originally, the preliminary rounds were scheduled for the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with the University of Ghana Stadium hosting the finals. However, a change in plans has led to adjustments in venue arrangements for the tournament.

The closure has also affected local football, forcing Hearts of Oak to relocate their Ghana Premier League match against Nations FC to the Tuba Astroturf.

The championship’s zonal qualifiers took place between October 2024 and January 2025, featuring school teams from 46 countries. The final stage will bring together the winners of the 2023-2024 boys’ and girls’ categories, champions from CAF’s six zones, and host nation Ghana.

A total prize pool of $650,000 has been allocated, with:

• Championship-winning school earning $300,000

• Runner-up receiving $200,000

• Third-place finisher taking home $150,000

Launched in April 2022, the CAF African Schools Football Championship was previously hosted by South Africa (2023) and Tanzania (2024). Ghana will now make history as the first West African nation to host the tournament.
