Nigerian referees Gbemisola Yusuf and Racheal Onyekwere have arrived in Ghana to officiate at the WAFU U-17 Women Championship, marking another milestone in their budding careers.

Gbemisola Yusuf, a seasoned official from the Lagos State Referees’ Council, has gained recognition through her involvement in CAF schools football championships and other African youth tournaments. She recently attended the CAF Young Referees Course in Egypt for non-FIFA women referees, solidifying her expertise.

Joining her is Racheal Onyekwere of the Bayelsa State Referees’ Council, a newcomer to the international stage. Both referees participated in the 2024 FIFA MA Course for Young Talents, showcasing their potential for global officiating roles.

Gbemisola will serve as the center referee during the tournament, while Racheal will assist as an assistant referee. Upon their arrival, the two underwent medical and physical fitness tests, a standard requirement to qualify for officiating duties at the competition.

Their participation in the WAFU U-17 Women Championship underscores the growing prominence of women referees in Nigeria and positions them as key figures in the future of women’s officiating in the country.
