Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) don give more details about one railway incident wey involve passenger train wey dey run for Rigasa–Idu rail line.

 

For statement wey dem release for Abuja on Monday, NSIB Director of Public Affairs, Funke Arowojobe, talk say the train, wey dem identify as KA2, comot from Rigasa Railway Station for Kaduna.

 

She explain say small time after the train leave Jere station, the back locomotive loose from the main train as e dey move go Asham side wey get downward slope. The detached engine come roll go front and hit the back part of the train, wey cause serious operational problem.

 

According to her, the train get two locomotives (one for front and one for back), one power car, two business class coaches and six standard passenger coaches.

 

She say total of 429 passengers dey inside the train, plus 46 crew members and 24 security personnel wey follow the journey.

 

“No death record for the incident, but some passengers get injury. Staff of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and security people wey dey inside respond quickly to the situation,” she talk.

 

Medical team also give first aid to people wey sustain injury before the train continue the journey go Idu station for Abuja, where e reach around 10:39am and dem provide more assistance to passengers.

 

Arowojobe add say NSIB investigators don start to gather evidence to know wetin really cause the incident. She say dem go check technical and operational issues like how the train take arranged, how the locomotives take attach, and other important data.

 

She further explain say the incident happen around 9:16am for Jere–Asham section near Asham station for Kaduna State, and that part of the rail track dey slope downward.

 

Meanwhile, Director-General of NSIB, Alex Badeh Jr., show concern for passengers wey get injury and praise the quick response of NRC workers and emergency teams.

 

“This kind incident dey remind us say plenty people dey depend on transport system to carry dem safely. Our mind dey with those wey get injury,” he talk.

 

He assure say NSIB go do thorough investigation to understand wetin happen and make sure say lessons from the incident go help improve railway safety for Nigeria.

 

Badeh also talk say the bureau go continue to work with NRC and other relevant agencies, and dem go release more updates as investigation dey go on.
