A tragic accident has deeply impacted the Zambian football community, claiming the lives of seven individuals and injuring 12 others over the weekend. A team from Chavuma Town Council FC was traveling to a vital match in the North Western Province Division One League when their quantum bus overturned between Lukhunyi and Ndondo while en route to Mufumbwe for a Week 8 match against Mufumbwe Marketeers.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) expressed its profound shock at the incident. FAZ president Andrew Kamanga stated, “We are in contact with the football, civil, and law enforcement authorities in the province to gather complete details.”

The injured individuals have been transported to Lusaka for medical treatment, with five reported in critical condition. The identities of those who lost their lives and the injured have not yet been released.

This heartbreaking event underscores the inherent risks faced by those involved in the sport, leaving the football community in mourning. Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), along with Artur de Almeida e Silva, president of the Southern Africa regional FA council, have extended their condolences and support to the families and friends of the deceased and injured players.
