Businessman and philanthropist Sir Dr. Emeka Offor has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in improving Nigeria’s education sector, stating that his administration has performed better than its predecessors in this area.

Sir Offor made these remarks on Thursday after being conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by the Nile University of Nigeria during its 12th Convocation Ceremony in Abuja.

The founder and Executive Chairman of Chrome Group of Companies noted that under Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria has witnessed a strike-free academic year for university lecturers—a significant departure from the disruptions of the past.

“Unlike in the recent past, there has not been any industrial action for the past year, lecturers are now being paid regularly, and education is now a priority for this government,” Sir Offor stated.

While commending the government’s progress, Dr. Offor urged the administration to increase its investment in education to better prepare Nigeria’s youth for future responsibilities. He emphasized the importance of not just academic learning but also character development as key to transforming the education sector.

Sir Offor, whose philanthropic efforts through the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) have garnered numerous accolades, expressed gratitude to Nile University for recognizing his contributions. He also encouraged the institution to maintain its high standards of academic excellence and character-building.

“The Nile University of Nigeria is a beacon of quality in education, producing graduates of exceptional caliber year after year,” he said, while pledging his continued commitment to poverty alleviation and societal betterment.

Speaking on behalf of SEOF, the foundation’s Executive Vice President, Barrister Adaora Offor, echoed her gratitude to the university, emphasizing that such recognition would inspire Sir Offor to expand his philanthropic work.

The convocation ceremony also honored other notable Nigerians, including Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume and petroleum mogul Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, for their contributions to society.
