President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed all service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri following a fresh wave of terrorist attacks in Borno State.

 

The directive was contained in a statement personally signed by the President and released on Tuesday, in response to Monday’s bomb attacks that reportedly claimed at least 23 lives.

 

The attacks, believed to have been carried out by suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers, have heightened concerns over security in the region.

 

Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the incident, commiserating with the people of Borno and families of victims, while assuring Nigerians that the military remains on top of the situation.

 

“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” the President said.

 

He described the attacks as desperate attempts by weakened terrorist elements seeking to instill fear, insisting that such acts would not deter ongoing military operations.

 

“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies,” he stated.

 

The President commended Nigerian troops and civilian task forces for repelling coordinated attacks on military formations, describing their efforts as courageous and patriotic.

 

Tinubu also revealed that he had recently approved additional military equipment and operational support during a high-level security meeting with heads of intelligence and security agencies.

 

“Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” he added.

 

Reaffirming his administration’s resolve, the President declared that no part of Nigeria would serve as a safe haven for terrorists.

 

“We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” Tinubu assured.

 

The latest directive underscores renewed federal efforts to contain insurgency in the North-East and restore lasting peace in the region.
