Veteran Nigerian singer Inetimi Alfred Odon, widely known by his stage name Timaya, has addressed speculation regarding his retirement from music, assuring fans that he has not stepped away from the industry permanently.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the “Dem Mama” hitmaker playfully debunked the rumours, stating, “No be say the boy retire, the boy just been dey sleep,” suggesting that his current absence is merely a temporary pause.

Timaya launched his solo career in 2005 with the powerful debut single Dem Mama, which shed light on the tragic Odi massacre in Bayelsa State, his place of origin. His rise to fame was cemented with the release of his first studio album, True Story, in 2006.

Over the span of two decades, the Afro-dancehall artist has released eight studio albums, one extended play, and a slew of hit singles. His music journey has also included collaborations with international acts such as Sean Paul and reggae group Morgan Heritage.

Despite his recent low profile, Timaya’s message makes it clear: he’s not done yet—he’s simply recharging.
