The NPFL Board has postponed the resumption of the NPFL 2023/24 season thrice. All the talks about aligning the NPFL calendar with the European calendar were a fallacy. I'm not even a fan of that subject, we have bigger problems than chasing calendar alignment with the European calendar. We need to fix our problems and stop chasing shadows.

I'm a positive person and an apostle of the NPFL and domestic Football/Sports. I look out for the positives and communicate the positives to the Football Community/fans. The NPFL Board must improve their communication, our football is political and all administrators spend more time projecting propaganda instead of putting in the real work.

The postponement of the League resumption has got some positivity, I think we need to solve problems rather than starting a new season with the problems. I agree that the NPFL Board had enough time to sort out the challenges delaying the kickoff of the League, if they have been proactive, the League would have started, but what do we have? Politicians who can't think fast, slow to react, and lack ideas.

The postponement positives;

From my investigation, the postponement was caused by potential sponsors, the previous season ended in June, and we could have sorted all the rough edges. But I'm excited that the League is attracting potential sponsors and a broadcast deal.

Yesterday, the NPFL announced MTN as a partner for their proposed live-streaming platform managed by Propel Sports. We have been told that the NPFL LIVE App target is to broadcast 300 games, and MTN will provide the necessary support. I'm also excited about my micro poll result, which shows that the exclusivity to MTN will not have a negative impact, MTN has got a big pool of customers in Nigeria.

I have discussed this with my NPFL friends, this was an opportunity for the NPFL to end the monopoly in the broadcast rights, but it's obvious they are scared to make this decision, we'll give our maximum support to MTN and encourage Football fans to support this partnership.

Another exciting piece of information is the proposed N1.5 Billion bid from StarTimes to acquire the TV/Cable rights of the NPFL. The NPFL Board needs money to organize the League, the cost of operations is huge and it costs almost a Billion Naira to service annually. However, with a review of the operations policy, the budget can be cut down. The TV deal will also solve the financial problem of the NPFL Board paying for production and airtime on Supersport.

A few people in the NPFL Board preferred Supersport to StarTimes, but the only company that has proposed money is StarTimes. According to my sources, Supersport are not convinced maybe to rescind its decision to invest in the NPFL.

In all, the delay in the kickoff has got a bit of positivity and hope. In the end, sealing a broadcast deal with either StarTimes or Supersport will make the delay worth it, if we add the NPFL LIVE & MTN partnership to it.

Supersport are not ready to invest and I have mentioned this a lot of times that the NPFL Board can't afford to fund the cost of production of the games, they will end up bankrupt. What they should propose as a short-term policy is to end the monopoly and exclusive rights. A situation where both StarTimes and Supersport can buy different packages that will skyrocket the reach of the NPFL, but do we have the brain and personalities to broker this deal with StarTimes and Supersport in the NPFL Board? I doubt.

I hope the NFF and NPFL Board will call for a meeting with the Clubs soon. All parties need to meet, the NPFL Board must improve their communication with the clubs and open their books for criticism.
