Nigeria's democracy is often touted as a symbol of the country's progress, but beneath the surface lies a disturbing trend that threatens the very fabric of our governance: *praise-singing and sycophancy.* 
These practices have become pervasive, with many Nigerians excessively lauding leaders, often without merit.

This culture of sycophancy undermines accountability, stifles dissent, and enables poor governance. It creates an environment where leaders are not held accountable for their actions, and citizens' voices are silenced. The consequences are far-reaching, perpetuating a system of cronyism and corruption.

To build a genuine democracy, Nigerians must prioritize critical thinking, demand accountability, and reject the culture of praise-singing and sycophancy. Only then can we foster a society that values transparency, merit, justice, and true leadership. On these lies the prosperity of a blessed nation which is languishing in self created poverty.

As it relates to sports development and especially football in general:

 have far-reaching consequences in Nigerian sports, particularly football. These practices can:

1. *Stifle Criticism*: Prevent constructive feedback, hindering coaches' and players' growth.
2. *Foster Nepotism*: Unqualified individuals may be appointed to key positions based on loyalty rather than merit.
3. *Undermine Meritocracy*: Talent and hard work may be overshadowed by flattery and personal connections.
4. *Hinder Accountability*: Coaches, administrators, and players may avoid responsibility for poor performance.

To develop Nigerian sports, it's essential to promote meritocracy, transparency, and constructive criticism, rather than sycophancy and praise-singing. This shift in culture can help foster a more competitive and successful sports environment.

If we want a revamp and a turn-around in the decay facing us today as a nation, then voices of reason and uprightness must both be heard and upheld. This is the only way to go, if we need to have our fortune turned for good.

It's another year of acclaimed democracy, yet, it seems like we are worse off in the democratic era than when we were being maltreated by military rules in the past. 
However the real question is,"who will bell the cat"?
