Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has opened up about her enduring marriage to legendary actor Olu Jacobs, sharing heartfelt insights into their 43-year relationship and the challenges that have come with aging and illness.

In an emotional reflection, Silva revealed that they have been married for 39 years, after dating for five years before tying the knot. She spoke candidly about the early difficulties in their relationship and how mutual understanding helped them pull through.

“It wasn’t easy when we first started. At a point, we had to come to an agreement — that is, accepting things the way they are,” she said.

Silva also paid tribute to her husband, describing him as a loving father and devoted partner during his healthier years. “To be honest, when my husband had the strength, he was an amazing father and a good husband to me. He is my best friend, and I could and still can discuss anything with him.”

Now facing a new phase in their journey together, Silva compared her current role in Jacobs’ life to that of a caregiver, likening it to caring for a parent.

“At this stage, it’s more like I’m taking care of my father, not just a husband. The husband I married is not still there, but the person I’m seeing is someone I love. It’s my turn to care for him; he’s mine, and he deserves love,” she said with deep emotion.

She ended with a message to women, particularly those navigating similar realities in old age: “Once every woman understands this at old age, you won’t abandon your man.”

Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs are widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most iconic couples, and her words have struck a chord with many, highlighting the enduring power of love, commitment, and care.
