Tension for Abuja as Protesters Storm EFCC Office to Support Chairman Olukoyede
Abuja enter tension mode on Monday as members of di National Interest Coalition carry out heavy protest in support of di Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and its chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede.
Di protest, wey Comrade Bashir Abdul lead, start from Central Area go through di Three Arms Zone before dem finally gather for EFCC headquarters for Jabi. There, dem submit one petition to show say dem go stand gidigba with di EFCC leadership.
Comrade Abdul talk say di protest na to resist wetin dem call “deliberate campaign” to spoil EFCC image and scatter President Bola Tinubu anti-corruption waka.
“We don uncover evil plan by some big men for government wey wan attack EFCC chairman and frustrate di President’s anti-corruption fight,” Abdul tell journalists.
He add say dem no go allow such plot succeed, and say di group go continue to stand behind Olukoyede and President Tinubu.
Di protesters praise EFCC performance under Olukoyede, point finger to 4,111 convictions wey di agency record for 2024 — di highest ever since EFCC start work.
Dem also mention say EFCC don act on over 15,000 petitions, and more than 80% lead to conviction. Dem believe say this kind strong record dey make corrupt people for government fear and plan fight-back.
Di coalition describe Olukoyede as one proactive leader wey sabi law well-well, and say all these attacks on him na planned move to protect corrupt officials from facing justice.
“Make nobody dey deceive Nigerians — all these character attacks na to shield corrupt people from EFCC,” one protester talk as dem wave placards.
Di protest attract plenty supporters wey carry banners and shout slogans like:
• “We Stand With EFCC!”
• “Support Tinubu’s Anti-Corruption War!”
• “Hands Off Olukoyede!”
Earlier before di march, di group also hold press conference to raise alarm about wetin dem describe as “coordinated sabotage” of EFCC efforts.
Security operatives monitor di protest, and everything remain peaceful till di group disperse.
