Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, a former senior cleric of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has sparked fresh controversy by establishing a new church, Family Fellowship, located in Victoria Island, Lagos. The move comes months after his suspension from RCCG in 2023 following public criticism of his actions during a sensitive period.

Iluyomade, who was previously the senior pastor of RCCG’s prestigious City of David Parish, faced backlash last year after hosting a grand event to celebrate his wife’s 60th birthday. The lavish celebration coincided with a national period of mourning for the victims of a tragic helicopter crash, including the death of Wigwe, a prominent Nigerian figure, in the United States. The timing of the event drew widespread condemnation, with many accusing Iluyomade of insensitivity.

Following the incident, RCCG leadership suspended Iluyomade, a decision that stirred discussions within church circles and among members of the public.

Now, the launch of Family Fellowship signals Iluyomade’s attempt to chart a new course, despite the controversy surrounding his departure from RCCG. Speaking at the inaugural service, he emphasized the church’s mission to build strong family bonds and foster spiritual growth, though he did not address his suspension or the circumstances that led to it.
